Company Overview#
VSION develops switchable smart-glass materials for automotive applications, with a focus on privacy, thermal management, energy efficiency, and premium vehicle design.
Technology & Product#
Its key technology is a transmittance-variable black PDLC film for automotive roof glass. The film appears opaque black when the power is off and becomes transparent when activated.
Compared with conventional white or milky PDLC films, the technology provides a darker premium appearance while also helping block UV radiation and solar heat. This can improve occupant privacy and potentially reduce cooling loads inside the vehicle.
Market & Use Cases#
The technology is particularly suited to automotive roof glass, panoramic roofs, privacy glass, and premium vehicle interiors. It can also be applied to architectural, rail, and aviation glazing.
Traction & References#
VSION operates its own materials and production capabilities, with a reported 90%+ production yield. Its technology is currently being evaluated through PoCs with major glass manufacturers including Saint-Gobain and Asahi and has applications across building, rail, and aviation sectors. The technology is currently assessed at approximately TRL 5–6, with samples undergoing reliability evaluation.
Collaboration Relevance#
For Mercedes-Benz, VSION could support the development of a switchable black smart-glass roof option, providing on-demand privacy, solar and heat control, and a premium visual experience. Potential collaboration could focus on automotive validation and eventual OEM supply.
