Company Overview
#

BOOKEND is a Korean publishing-technology company. It builds AI software that automates proofreading and editing work in book publishing. The goal is to cut the time and cost of turning a manuscript into a finished book.

The company runs two products. SENTENCIFY is an AI writing proofreader for editors and authors. “editorial” is a document-level AI book editor for whole manuscripts. BOOKEND also runs its own publishing operation, which gives it a steady revenue base and a real-world testbed for its tools. Its model moves from B2C users (editors, authors, creators) toward B2B customers (publishers and content companies).

BOOKEND is based in Daejeon and works out of Daejeon Startup Park.

Technology & Product
#

SENTENCIFY is an AI proofreading engine that works sentence by sentence. It adapts to a chosen writing style and to the content category, and it can carry text straight into translation. Instead of relying on one model, it orchestrates several large language models (OpenAI, Gemini, Claude, and LLaMA) and uses a quantitative evaluation step to pick and tune the best output. It runs inside everyday tools such as Word, Notion, and Slack through a keyboard shortcut.

“editorial” is a document-level AI book editor. An editor uploads a full manuscript as PDF, DOCX, HWP, or HWPX, and the system returns a first editing pass in minutes instead of weeks. The pipeline first builds a glossary to check consistency of terms, phrasing, and sentence endings across the whole document. It then proofreads and polishes with the multi-LLM engine, and finally copyedits with fact-checking to catch errors and filter out mis-corrections. Every suggested edit comes with a reason, so a human editor can review and accept it.

Market & Use Cases
#

BOOKEND serves three groups. Individual editors, authors, and creators use SENTENCIFY on a usage-based SaaS plan. Publishers and content companies use the editing engine through a B2B API. Security-sensitive organizations can run it on-premise.

The clearest use case is speed. A proofreading pass that normally takes weeks can start as a draft in minutes, so editors spend their time on planning and judgment rather than mechanical checks. On-premise delivery fits publishers that cannot send manuscripts to external cloud services. BOOKEND targets Korea and Japan first. Japan is a large publishing market where only sentence-level tools exist today, which leaves room for a document-level AI editor.

Traction & References
#

BOOKEND has been in the TIPS program since 2023, and early investors include Bluepoint Partners together with the TIPS Program(CB Insights). The company has filed a patent in Korea for its Korean-sentence proofreading technology(CB Insights).

SENTENCIFY is publicly available and supports Korean as its first non-English language, with further languages on its product roadmap. BOOKEND is based at Daejeon Startup Park and is raising a Pre-Series A round(NextUnicorn).

Collaboration Relevance
#

BOOKEND fits publishers, content companies, and localization or translation firms that handle large volumes of text. The strongest PoC is automated proofreading and copyediting, measured against a publisher’s own manuscripts and house style. On-premise deployment makes it a candidate for security-sensitive publishers and public institutions.

For market entry, Japan is the most direct opportunity because document-level AI editing is not yet served there. For Korea-Europe collaboration, the multi-LLM proofreading engine could extend to European languages, which would make BOOKEND relevant to European publishers, educational-content providers, and content platforms that need consistent, explainable editing at scale.
